GSMA’s New Fund Targets Innovative Solutions for Humanitarian Crises
In a world grappling with escalating humanitarian crises, a beacon of hope shines from the GSMA. Their newly launched GSMA Humanitarian Innovation Fund partnered with the UK’s FCDO, aims to empower tech-driven solutions tackling issues like food insecurity, displacement, and natural disasters in vulnerable communities.
Building on a legacy of over GBP5 million in distributed grants since 2017, this fund ups the ante, offering support of up to GBP250,000 and invaluable non-financial and technical assistance. Startups, SMEs, and social enterprises with innovative ideas leveraging mobile and other digital technologies are invited to join the fight.
Tech to the Rescue: From leveraging AI and the Internet of Things (IoT) for better disaster preparedness to empowering crisis-affected populations with access to vital information and services, the fund seeks solutions that push the boundaries of technology in the service of humanity. Existing innovations with the potential to be adapted and scaled up in new humanitarian contexts are also welcome.
Beyond Dollars and Cents: The GSMA’s vision extends beyond financial support. Mentorship, networking opportunities, and access to industry expertise are integral components of the fund, fostering a robust ecosystem for these game-changing solutions to flourish.
Calling All Innovators: Time is of the essence for those facing the brunt of humanitarian crises. Applications for the GSMA Humanitarian Innovation Fund are open until February 12, 2024, urging innovators to step forward and translate their ingenuity into real-world impact.
