What Nigerians Searched Most in 2025: From What Is Kelebu to iPhone 17

Google has released the 2025 Year in Search report for Nigeria, and it reads like a diary of the questions and moments that shaped our year. The list covers the top searches in sports, people, loss, lyrics, technology, and trending questions that Nigerians rushed online to understand.

Senator Natasha Hadiza Akpoti Uduaghan became the number one most searched Nigerian personality in 2025, showing that public interest in politics stayed strong. Right behind her was Eberechi Eze, the British Nigerian Arsenal midfielder who continued to shine in the Premier League.

The passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari drew huge attention as Nigerians looked back on his years in office and the influence he had on national life.

Other major deaths also kept the nation reflective. Well known names such as Super Eagles icon Peter Rufai, Pope Francis, and footballer Diogo Jota remained among the most searched losses of the year.

Still, the year was not only filled with serious news. Nigerians also searched for meaning behind popular viral expressions. The word Achalugo, which spread widely after its use in the Nollywood film Love In Every Word, became the top trending question. Labubu took the third spot and Kelebu followed closely behind at number four.

Searches for mobile devices showed a mix of dreams and everyday reality. The iPhone 17 took the top position, proving Nigerians have a growing interest in high end Apple products.

But the rest of the list showed something different. Affordable phones like TECNO Pop 10, Redmi 14C, TECNO Spark 40, and Infinix Note 50 Pro were also highly searched, which shows that most buyers are still focused on phones that offer strong value.

Entertainment trends also stood out clearly. Nigerians continued to support local music and films in large numbers.

The gospel song Oluwatosin (Jesus Is Enough) by Tkeyz featuring Steve Hills became the most searched track. Rising Afrobeats artist Fido kept the momentum with his song Joy is Coming at number two.

In Nollywood, director Kemi Adetiba appeared among the top searches. Her series To Kill a Monkey became the second most searched Nigerian show of the year.

Food and recipe searches revealed a growing interest in foreign meals. Nigerians looked up everything from pornstar martinis to lasagna and even soufflé pancakes, showing how curiosity around global cuisine keeps rising.

Overall, this year’s search data paints a clear picture of what caught our attention. It shows what made us curious, what made us emotional, and what kept us entertained.

As Taiwo Kola Ogunlade, Communications and Public Affairs Manager for Google West Africa, explained, the 2025 Year in Search goes far beyond numbers. It offers a bright and honest look at what captured the minds of Nigerians throughout the year.
