MTN Group’s Game-Changing Leadership Moves Revealed!

MTN just made some exciting moves in their executive team!

Selorm Adadevoh, the current CEO of MTN Ghana, is taking on a new role as the group chief commercial officer [COO] from April 1, 2024.

He’s stepping into the shoes of Jens Schulte-Bockum, who’s been holding the fort as the group COO, but his contract comes to an end on March 31, 2024. Adadevoh got some big shoes to fill, but he’s up for the challenge.

The MTN group has added a bit of a twist to Adadevoh’s new title  to match the group’s operating model better. Starting on April 1, he’ll be part of the exco, taking over all the executive responsibilities from Schulte-Bockum in a smooth transition over the next few months.

Why the change, you ask?

Well, it’s all part of MTN Group’s master plan for succession. The team is ensuring everything aligns perfectly with their Ambition 2025 strategy.

Adadevoh has been with MTN since 2018, rocking it as the CEO of MTN Ghana. With his wealth of experience, he’s all set to shine in his new gig. Exciting times ahead for MTN Group!

Before taking the helm as MTN Ghana CEO, Selorm Adadevoh handled key positions in the Digicel Group. In  titles of CEO, COO, and global director of the mobile financial services firm. And if you rewind a bit, he had a stint at telecoms firm Millicom/Tigo in Ghana, holding down various senior positions as well, so it’s safe to say the MTN Group chose well!

As for Jens Schulte-Bockum – he’s not saying goodbye just yet. While he’s passing the torch at MTN Ghana, he’s keeping a seat at the table as a non-executive director on the boards of MTN South Africa, MTN Nigeria, and Bayobab.

Finally, Stephen Blewett is stepping into the CEO shoes at MTN Ghana from April 1, 2024. Rumor has it he’s no stranger to the MTN family. He made a grand re-entry in July 2023 as the operations executive for markets, where he took care of the smaller West and Central Africa (WECA) markets. He also provided some serious operations support to the senior VP for markets across the entire WECA region. Before his MTN encore, Blewett also had a gig at Digicel, where he worked his way up to COO.

Fun fact: he spent a solid seven years in CEO roles for MTN Benin and then MTN Cameroon within the Digicel empire. and not just as CEO extraordinaire – he has a comfy spot on various boards within the WECA market operating companies, some even as chairman.

Ralph Mupita, the big boss at MTN Group, gave a shout out to Jens for his fantastic contributions over the years. And of course, a big congrats to Selorm and Stephen on snagging those top gigs!
